Description
Séraphîta
Ferdinand Cayeux by René Cayeux introduced and registered 1946
The name comes from the novel of the same name by Honoré de Balzac. It is the story of Séraphitüs who is in love with Minna, who returns the love, percieving Séraphitüs as a man.
However, Wilfrid also loves them, perceiving them as Séraphîta – a woman.
René Cayeux’s (Ferdinand’s son) name is attached to Esclarmonde and Séraphîta because Ferdinand retired from the business (but continued to hybridise) in 1938, with René taking over day to day management. He introduced and registered his father’s irises after this point but did not breed any irises himself
